When the Manufacturing & Export Enhancement (MEE) Cluster approached its network of manufacturers across Western Canada to identify the most pressing challenges facing the sector, one pressing need was almost universally brought forth first: skilled labour shortage. Manufacturers are very concerned about the labour shortage they face today that will most certainly get worse before it gets better and the impact it is having on short term growth and expansion plans in the future.
Therefore, the MEE Cluster decided to engage the future generation of workers in the SmartMTX to provide opportunity for students to get inspired to pursue a career in manufacturing, showcase their talent, and generate discussion on how to attract more younger workers into the sector.
The 2024 SmartMTX will feature a number of student focused activities in the afternoon of Day 2 to meaningfully connect industry with students from local high schools and post-secondaries from further afield.
