Topic: A Virtual Science Park: Efficiency to Innovation
Description:
Brick-and-mortar science parks offer stimulating, mentorship environments that provide startups with access to infrastructure, office space, and innovation support. Science parks are typically owned by post-secondary institutions, large corporations, and/or government. They are limited by borders and the collaboration network created by those involved.
A virtual science park can add efficiency to innovation projects by matching solution seekers to solution providers. It is not defined by borders between provinces or nations and is not dependent upon a network of colleagues and partnerships. The Science Park powered by Alberta IoT has been designed to use machine learning to quickly identify the best potential candidates to solve a challenge. It removes the necessity of pre-existing relationships and provides access to talent and lab assets to solve challenges impacting business today.
